Announcement

I am thrilled to announce that I've just signed with agent Kent D. Wolf at Global Literary Management* in New York.

I was ninety-nine percent sure I was going to accept his offer about fifteen minutes into our first conversation, even though other agents were reading my manuscript. I've written a book about characters who are Muslim feminists--something we now know some people don't even think exists--and here was this male, non-Muslim agent, who Just. Got. It.

I didn't even wait the full week to accept**, and in the end, I actually withdrew material instead of wasting anyone's time.

Sometimes, you just know.

I'm really excited to be working with Kent, and I know my novel is going to be better because of our collaboration.

Plus, my kids now think I'm cool.

*Kent is now at Lippincott Massie Mcquilkin in New York.

**A special thanks to Sarah Hina who offered much advice and handholding through this process and who did her best to stop me from accepting right away because she wanted me to be sure. And who knows why I can't show my face at my local post office for the foreseeable future.

  3. Thanks, Davin! I think I didn't now how important that would be until I talked to him. I was really overwhelmed with the level of thoughtfulness he brought to the subject matter. Which is a very good thing!

  4. In future versions of Facebook and other such social networks. People will search for agents/writers/publishers and my profile will pop up. You know why? Coz all my friends turn published writers. I have the midas touch.

*Yes, I'm going to make this all about me. And I'm not going to give you any credit for the awesome achievement you've achieved coz that'll make people think I've gotten soft and that's bad for my rep. *

  11. The reason this news makes me so freaking happy (outside of your mentioning me, of course ;)) is that I know how well deserved it is. And I'm not only talking about the book, which is brilliant and timely and crackling (GO, Zainab!). I'm talking about YOU, my friend. You deserve every piece of the happiness and success coming to you.

I feel so lucky to know you and share in a part of that. And I'd LOVE to walk into that post office beside you and announce to the entire room, "This is my author friend. Do whatever she asks of you. Trust me, the book is WAY worth it." :)
